Hello and welcome to my first ever blog post!
I have been wondering for some time about what the subject of my first post should be. With several ideas, it has been tricky to know where to begin so that other ideas will flow logically from this first share. After much deliberation however, I have decided to just go with my gut – what is the worst that could happen, right?
So, this was actually the first large-scale project that I had tried which took me away from the card-crafting that I had been used to and gave me a challenge. A very dear friend of mine was pregnant with her 2nd child and a mutual friend of ours approached me about holding a baby shower for her – any excuse for a girly get-together! As we gathered ideas and swapped many texts, the idea of a nappy cake was mentioned. I had heard of a nappy cake but had never seen one and didn’t really know much about them so I did what we all do and Googled it! While many of them were great, I was amazed at how much some people were charging for them. ‘Forget that, I’ll have a go at making one myself’ I said – famous last words!
After many hours spent pouring over Google images and collecting ‘ingredients’ I was ready to have a go at creating my first nappy cake. And what fun it was too! I love trying out new ideas, as long as I give myself the time and space to have a play around without a 3 year old round my feet saying ‘What are you doing, Mummy? Can I help!’ Looking back on it now, probably the hardest part was finding neutral baby grows and accessories, as my friend did not know what she was having – very helpful! I was really chuffed with my attempt and it was a real surprise for our friend, which was what it was all about.
I have since made several other nappy cakes (watch out for future posts on these), learning little tricks and different ways of doing things as I have gained more practise. I really enjoy the challenge of using all the items available and making them all fit into the final product.
It just goes to show …. You never know unless you give it a go!
